After an abortive start with 2 SLRs from another manufacturer, I began my photography with the purchase of a Canon EOS1000FN and a Canon 35-80 f/4-5.6 USM lens. As my Interest at that time was primarily in photographing BTCC race cars, a sigma 75-300mm DL lens soon followed. A Sigma 24mm f/2.8 and Cobra 700 AF flashgun completed this early kit. However dissatisfaction with the results achieved led to the Sigma 75-300mm DL being replaced by a Sigma 75-300mm APO and the addition of a Canon 430EZ flashgun.

After a few years, a change in financial circumstances enabled the upgrading of equipment and saw the purchase of a Canon EOS50E 35mm SLR, Canon 28-80mm f/4-5.6 USM lens, Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM lens, Sigma 18-35mm f/3.8-5.6 lens and Canon 380EX flashgun. Shortly after this a trip to West Yorkshire procured a used Sigma 400mm f/5.6 APO lens.

Moving to the USA enabled me to take advantage of the keen prices there and after replacing the Canon 28-80mm lens with a Canon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, a Canon Elan II E (US spec EOS50E) was added to the camera bag.

By now I considered my equipment to be complete but in 2001, an accident involving my camera bag, a small child and a deer viewing platform in the New Forest led to my insurance company supplying a replacement Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM lens. A few months later the opportunity to purchase a new Canon 50mm f/1.8 at a bargain price resulted in this lens being added to the camera bag.

As I found myself wanting to try macro work, I also added a set of Triplus extension tubes to my equipment. Whilst attempting to shoot the 2004 Tour of Britain, a spectator attempting to emulate his heroes on the climb of Cow & Calf found himself unable to continue and fell on my camera bag writing off the Sigma 18-35mm and 400mm lenses. As neither of these lenses were still in production, my insurer approved their replacement with a Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX HSM APO and Sigma 170-500mm f/4-6.3.

Having been offered the long-term loan of an EOS D30, I spent a year experimenting with digital capture and have subsequently purchased an EOS 5D.

After early experiments with various print and slide films, I have always used Fuji slide films, initially Sensia & Sensia II in 100 & 400 speeds, before moving on to Provia 100 & 400, Provia F 100 & 400, Velvia 50, Velvia 100F and currently Velvia 100. For black & white work, I've tended to use Agfa Scala 200 and for prints, Fuji Superia or Reala.

Having used several bags of various prices and qualities, I purchased a LowePro Nature Trekker AW in 2000 and have been so satisfied with this bag, that I would not consider any other brand in the future

After learning through experience that a tripod cannot be cheap, light and stable, I purchased a Uni-Loc System 1700 and this has been supporting my camera for a number of years.
